Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained,
But happy is he who keeps the law. Proverbs 29:18
O.K., I know what you’re thinking–The Ten Commandments, right? That law. The one that no one can fully keep and which condemns us as God’s creation in His image.
This is what the world would have us believe. Even those who call upon the Name of Jesus for salvation often believe this, to their torment and dismay, but this is so very wrong!
Jesus, the greatest simplifier and visionary in history, reduced these 10 laws that condemned us down to two in His image: Love God, Love Others. He made it easy for us to follow Him and produced in many of us visions of a wonderful life of peace, joy, and hope.
I’m not much of a visionary, but I have resolved to work on this and commit my path more deeply to Him Who gave me the desire to work on these things and be molded into His image.
With God’s help, I will make this vision a unified one in all the aspects of my life. Not one for work and one for home, and yet another for church. One vision that begins by surrendering all that I am and all that I have to Jesus Christ who produces good fruit in everyone who believes in Him.
Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Galatians 5:19-25
Here we see two things at work: a world where there is no vision. One much like the one that exists today and has always existed outside the will of The Creator. The second is one that I wish the world would seek now, but one that I believe we are coming to eventually.
Perhaps soon. May you find a similar vision, and work toward it in a spirit of surrender to Him Who created the best vision for us all.
