One of the things that has kept me engaged as closely as I have been in my church for just over 5 years is the sense that the pastors of the church are truly, and with great discernment, seeking a closer walk with God not just for themselves but for the thousands they shepherd every day.
They succeed in doing this through dozens of ministries which feed and clothe the poor and homeless, the provision of comfort and guidance for the seeking, the wavering, the wayward, and the lost. Their instruction, across the board among all the pastors, has encouraged me to pursue that closer walk which leads me and my family to wisdom, stability, and peace in the knowledge and love of the truth provided by the Faithful and True Jesus Christ.
One of things that the ministry of my church has helped me to do is to live out my faith while I participate in a three week long fast with my wife and son. My wife by a similar movement of the Holy Spirit, my son, because he more or less has to. He’s been great about it though. He has actually gone without television for the past 8 days-phenomenal for most every American, much less a teenager.
And please no comments or comparisons about what you or your kids did that may have been better. That’s not the purpose of this post. Thanks for your self control in this matter.
For you locals in the Tampa bay area, the church is Countryside Christian Center,a non-denominational, charismatic church near Clearwater, Florida. It is a wonderful, loving place where all are welcome, well cared for and shepherded by exceptionally anointed and caring men and women who have never been anything less in the over 5 years my family and I have attended.
Love God, love others are more than words in our worship. It is how we reach out and demonstrate the love of God for His children and how He loves us by the power of His Holy Spirit which dwells in each saved person. We live His Word and this is what gives me and my family strength. If you’re not local, please check out the website, it’s easy to find.
You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. 2 Corinthians 3:3
Wherever you are, or whatever your background there is a way to draw closer to His love. a fast is something that we undertook after many years of shorter term and less committed ways of seeking a closer relationship with our Lord but it need not be yours. Get to a place where the word is faithfully taught and interpreted with integrity. Where the fruit of the Holy Spirit is not something that is hard to see and actions speak far louder than any pastor’s sermon, but whose sermon leads you on a steady, godly path.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
Whatever road you decide to take, know that you;re never alone when you seek Him out. He loves you and wants to walk with you and will stand closer to you than any brother.
Be blessed, friends!
