Happy Holidays? Really?

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this. Isaiah 9:6-7

Here’s a resounding “Humbug!” for you politically correct folks out there, some of whom call yourself Christians, who can’t decide who would be more offended: Those who don’t believe in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, Father of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ OR the One Who made the above prophecy true nearly 800 years after that prophecy was communicated by that same God to Isaiah.

We in the west are citizens of free nations, so far, who for now have enjoyed guaranteed civil liberties that allow us to say “Merry Christmas!” and “Happy Birthday, Jesus!” without fearing for our safety or the loss of those same liberties until now. Political correctness means the potential loss of the freedom to say things that many who object to my faith in Jesus Christ would like to silence forever.

They use the flimsiest of pretenses for this PC nonsense: The establishment of a religion is a popular one going around these days. It is not, of course, the establishment of anything.  It is the vocalization of one’s feelings about He upon whom his or her heart is most  set on praising and glorifying- the One Creator of us all, including atheists like the late Christopher Hitchens. Praising and glorifying Him by our thoughts, words, and deeds and not claiming credit for ourselves in the process. It seems we can praise and glorify anyone else with impunity.

Here’s another one:

I am the the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the The Father but by Me. John 14:6

There are those who have said that this no longer applies. Now there are many ways of achieving peace in one’s heart and mind and working toward a heaven that is not defined in Holy Scripture. We have formerly Christian churches practicing an amalgam of belief systems that are not prefaced upon Jesus as the only way to come to God the Father and even question who God the Father is! In some of these places you might even be god (small “g” intended for emphasis).

Chrislam, the Emergent Church, among many others contribute to the blurring of the truth that Jesus is the way laid out in the Scriptures. Satan, the Prince of this World is loving it. This is his forte. Creating questions in the weak-willed, spiritually poorly nourished, the impatient, and the carnal (a state I struggled with constantly) he makes it easy for us to live with a low standard of  morality, and a high standard of vanity which enables him to trap us much as he did Adam and Eve in Eden:

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”  The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,  but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.  “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 3:1-5

History, that is HIS Story, has brought us full circle from the Garden to the Cross to this very moment in time and we were made for this moment. Praise Him, Glorify Him. This is no holiday, that is HOLY Day, this isn’t X-Mas which takes the reason for the HOLY Day out of the day!  This is Christmas, the day in which God in the flesh came to His people with the singular purpose to die for the one thing that no one in history has ever been able to rise to the occasion to do. To live the perfect life and die to save us from our sins.

Once again the question begs: What will you do with this? Time is short and soon you will have to arrive at your tipping point. Decide now while you have time.

God Bless You This Christmas!

    • Thanks so much, Pastor. It took me a very long time to get it into my heart the way my wife and son did at a young age. The world is in too precarious a condition to trifle with God’s approval, I’m afraid. I hope you and your family have a wonderfully blessed Christmas!
