Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” John 3:20-21
Yesterday we discussed God and the American Way. At every level of American politics this has usually involved all sorts of subterranean scheming, dirty dealing, cheating, lying, and stealing to gain any upper hand in any situation.
Whether it is a critical national defense vote, a life saving expenditure for a dread disease or just finding the extra money to fill pot holes or tear down nuisance buildings, someone had to deal with someone else to get the attention to do something about it. Nothing is free. Not time, yours or the politician’s whose time you are usually wasting (and believe me, I’ve spoken with many politicians and I know that without something to grab and keep their attention, you are wasting their time). Forget about money, too.
Forget about them being your elected employee. They have that job not because of votes, but what their and other people’s money was able to buy: the impression of power and an ability to do something for you or the good of whatever constituency they claim to represent. They bought votes by impressing you.
Try asking a direct question and then try to get a direct answer from any of them. This is the light that must be shined. If they can’t or if they try to point an accusing finger at you for asking, look at their response through the light of John 3:20-21.
When you have done that, and they fail the test, you must ask yourself who to trust and what to do. Politics and faith matter now as much as ever in history and our leaders need to be able to stand scriptural scrutiny.
In my life, politics is out for good, I no longer consider anyone truthful enough, honorable enough, or effective enough to get the job done. It will take a mountain of evidence to convince me otherwise.
Truth is the foundation of real, Godly wisdom. With this, all things are possible. Don’t be afraid to expose people who claim to have your interests in mind when you’re not seeing the tangible result.
God Bless you and may His wisdom give you peace.
